I want to gauge the opinion of the many subscribers to this page in regards to the future. As I have stated in the past I wanted to try and get some sort of show in courthouse square. I was thinking why not turn it into a Rock Fest of sorts, kinda an annual thing. A Sonoma County rock fest to call our own. The way I see it is starting small in the beginning but growing it every year. I want this to be an event that bands from the bay area and beyond would like to perform at as well. This will be a place for local bands to show their stuff in middle of downtown. This is a grand idea but the main issue is Funding. I, personally cannot afford to do this myself. This show would definitely need sponsors and financial support. We would need help with raising funds for this show in addition to help with permits and planning. I was looking towards August to possibly do this as it will give ample time to plan and promote. Possible locations would be Courthouse Square in downtown Santa Rosa or the amphitheater at the fairgrounds (after the fair has ended). Cost of renting the amphitheater is listed as $2000 for one day (the Grace Pavillion is $500 cheaper) and currently costs for Courthouse square are unknown other than the permit costs which is around $80. Comments would be greatly appreciated as we can use all the input that we can get on this. Spread the word on this as we want the local community to embrace the event. Should we try and move forward with this idea and have something tangible to keep the rock community alive?

If you said no, then I urge you to get more involved. The only way we’re going to get Rock back on our airways, is with the commitment from the community.

The Community MUST demand it!!

Do you demand it?!? Show us!!!

Social Media is only going to get us so far. That includes better participation in our rallies. Increased calls to businesses that purchase advertising with Maverick Media. Use the updated script. It’s also time to increase the amount of letters in our arsenal of weapons. Letters to businesses that advertise with Maverick Media. Letters to both corporate and local headquarters. Letters to your local newspaper editor for the “opinion” sections. Press Democrat, Argus Courier, SF Examiner, Any and all that are available in our market.

We should also write letters to the companies that are supporting us. Yes, write, not call. I’m sure they’ve been called enough. I say write a letter from the heart. Tell them how much you appreciate them pulling their ads from Maverick Media. Tell them how much Rock means to your daily life. This is also good material to write to the newspapers.

Categories and email addresses for newsprint:

Press Democrat

LET THE PUBLIC SPEAK

E-mail letters of no more than 200 words to letters@pressdemocrat.com. Writer’s name, address and phone number must be included. Writers will be limited to one letter published every 90 days. Letters may be edited for length and clarity. Commentaries become property of The Press Democrat. They may be republished in all Press Democrat media.

Press Democrat

CLOSE TO HOME

E-mail local opinion pieces (no more than 650 words) to letters@pressdemocrat.com. (I’m sure they still need the same info as above)

Argus Courier

Letters to the Editor

Send email to chris.samson@arguscourier.com

It’s up to us to get our ROCK BACK!! Do you have it in you?!?

We are at a crossroads for our movement. Where do we go from here? We have had successes with businesses that advertise with Maverick Media. The question then becomes what do we do if Maverick Media doesn’t bring back the Fox as we knew it? We can keep protesting to keep publicity up in the media or we can get proactive. By being proactive I mean requesting rock on rival stations to Maverick Media, writing letters to the editor, by supporting local rock shows, and by writing to other media companies to get them to bring in a new rock station. These are very simple and we can do that at any time. This is how we can achieve keeping rock alive in Sonoma County. The key is building the rock community into a powerhouse. We should not stand down and let rock and roll go away. We need to stand up and say NO, and work to build the Sonoma County rock community into the envy of the rest of the Bay Area. Rock your metal shirts, blast your stereos with rockin’ tunes, and most of all keep attending local shows! The better the community becomes the more recognition our area will get from the big name bands. When those bands keep coming back, they bring in lots of money into the local economy and also help local bands by possibly having them open for them. This will not be an overnight change, this will take lots of hard work. My goal is to turn this site into a non-profit hub for the local community. We will use this site to promote local bands, and to build things up to help get big name talent to come here. I do not want to do this to get famous or anything like that. I am doing this for the love of the music that we all share, ROCK. This will be a community page, this will be used to bring ROCK back to Sonoma County no matter what happens with the Fox itself. The Fox may come back or it may not but the community will remain. The community will always outlive any radio station that comes along. We need your help at building up this dream of a super rock community, we need input on what you all want to be done. We could raise funds to build our own station (this will cost large amounts of money and will be no small task) orwe could focus on our campaign against Maverick Media (towards what end?). We need your input. Lets use this momentum that we have and build something great with it!

Dear Mr. Budzak,
My advertising on the new Fox is being discontinued by tomorrow at the latest. Will you kindly tell me how I can get my name off of the list that was compiled of advertisers for that station? Also, I appreciate the tone of your email, and the fact that you brought the issue to …my attention. We are therefore dedicating our resources for the time being to the creation of a website with a strong focus on being a social platform which the organizers of the Bring Back The Fox campaign can use to this end.
History:

CyberSyzygy started from the vision of an art school student lounging in the Boboli Gardens in Florence, Italy on a sunny spring morning in 1997. There, under the shade of a tree overlooking Florence, the young art student pondered the vast meaning of existence, his small role in it, and decided that given the talents he had with a computer, and the desire to create art, he should combine his ability to design and develop websites, and to find artists to promote and give a voice to. CyberSyzygy was born in December 2000, and its mission is to provide Perfect Alignment for artists, winemakers, and any other business with the social fabric of the web, and the mass media communications avenues available to them.

CyberSyzygy is a Sonoma County California web site development and design company, based in Santa Rosa, specializing in Local Search Engine Optimization and National Search Engine Optimization.
The sudden mellowing of Sonoma County’s last hard-rock radio station, The Fox 101.7, prompted a Facebook-organized uprising Friday that drew about 60 chanting protesters to the sidewalk outside the studios of Maverick Media.

CRISTA JEREMIASON/The Press Democrat

“Bring back the Fox!” shouted the crowd that gathered at 4 p.m. on Neotomas Avenue, off Farmers Lane.

The demonstrators objected to Maverick’s unannounced switching of The Fox, a 23-year-old rock standard, to a Top 40 format that features pop artists like Britney Spears, Pitbull and Pink.

“We’ve got some people upset. It was to be expected,” said Kent Bjugstad, manager of The Fox and Maverick Media’s other Sonoma County stations — KSRO, Froggy 92.9, The River and Mix 104.9.

He said he feels bad to have changed the format of a station with a passionate following, but said The Fox’s audience has been declining for years.

Hard-rock radio stations are losing ground across the country, and a local market survey found greater interest in Top 40s music targeted at listeners 18 to 34 years old, he said.

On the sidewalk Friday afternoon, protest organizer Daniel Mills, who’d created a Facebook page for people seeking to save The Fox, said there is more at stake than just the rock station.

He said The Fox played an important role in giving local bands some air time, bringing heavy metal and other hard-rock bands to Railroad Square’s Last Day Saloon and promoting such performances at Phoenix Theater.

It pleased Mills, 27, that the Facebook campaign drew a crowd to Maverick Media’s door only a day after The Fox became Hot 101.7

“Pretty much what happened here is social media at its finest,” he said.
